Testing glass to destruction

21 May 2012

As part of the development process for a series of glass bridges in our new Abercrombie building extension in Oxford, destructive tests of sample sections of the bridge have been carried out. The above video shows one of sever al tests undertaken. Each test involved a development of the fixing detail, improving the strength of the balustrade. The glass bridges will span a 6m atria, each bridge supported on glass beams formed from a single laminated piece of glass.  Each of the four bridges will incorporate a different coloured interlayer, which will provide a dramatic focus to the 5 storey space.
