A new iconic gateway building to the City which delivers high quality learning and teaching facilities.
Design Engine are developing the design for a new landmark building for the University of Winchester on their West Downs site. The new £30m project will be the most ambitious yet undertaken by the University of Winchester, currently celebrating the 175th anniversary of its founding. Design Engine’s brief will be to develop an iconic new scheme providing the university with an impressive new gateway building to the City whilst delivering high quality learning and teaching facilities.
Currently under construction once complete it should be the first Higher Education building in the UK to achieve the new WELL standard. As well as numerous teaching and learning environments the project incorporates an internal and external contemplation space.
Internally a circular space incorporates a curving wall of recessed spaces where people can ‘retreat’. This curving wall encloses a flexible space that can be configured for a number of uses which are compatible with the overall character of the space.
Externally, and at the heart of the development, is a new garden that has been designed to both be inhabited as well as to provide a visual background to the activities that surround it.
